Emilia Edwards was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She earned a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008 and an MFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2011. She currently lives in Philadelphia and works out of Space 1026.

Her inspirations include the works of underground comic artists Robert Williams, Gary Panter, Victor Moscoso, and Vaughn Bode, Winsor McCay’s Little Nemo in Slumberland, comic great Jack Kirby, Lee Bontecou, William Kentridge, early medical and botanical illustration, the research of Ernst Haeckel, and 1990s animated television shows, the most important of which is John Kricfalusi's Ren and Stimpy.
